This week's question is: What are your favorite books that have been made into a movie? - Suggested by Girl of 1000 Wonders

MY ANSWER: Favorite books that have been made into movies. Well Harry Potter for sure! And those movies were actually enjoyable!!

Another beloved favorite that was made into a movie was Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause! Although the movie was SO SO SOOOOOOOOO different from the book! I mean the only similarities was the title and the fact that we had a girl werewolf falling in love with a human teenage boy! Which was a no-no!! ;)

I highly recommend the book! The movie was okay. It was good as a movie that was NOT based on the book. But yeah, the book was WAYYYY better!

Random Thursday

Time for more facts of the bizarre kind from That's a Fact Jack: A Collection of Utterly Useless Information [Updated] by Harry Bright and Jakob Anser!! This book is seriously entertaining...and educational! I know all sorts of things to avoid! LOL!

"The largest human cell is the female ovum. The smallest is the male spem."

*Please note that this picture is just a google image of a "cell". I didn't specify! LOL!

"Drosophila Bifurca, a species of fruit fly, produces sperm that is more than two inches long when fully uncoiled. That's roughly 1,000 times longer than human sperm and 20 times longer than the fruit fly itself."

That is definitely new information! And surprising. I don't think I've heard any crude jokes about this either. Which is shocking, but then again, I rarely listen to those kinds of jokes! LOL!

Waiting on Wednesday

I hate waiting...
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog post by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights releases we're eagerly awaiting.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Keeper of the Castle, San Francisco contractor and ghost whisperer Mel Turner must solve a murder mystery at a haunted mansion in the Pacific Heights...

San Francisco millionaire Andrew Stirling wants to sell his Victorian mansion, but ghostly music, the squeaking of a long-disappeared weathervane, and an angry ghost keep running off potential buyers. After a famous psychic is called in, she informs the Stirlings that their multi-million-dollar renovations to “update” the home have left its resident ghost extremely agitated. So contractor Mel Turner is engaged to track down and replace some of the original features of the house.

But when the beautiful psychic is found stabbed, it appears someone had a very human motive for murder. Now Mel must use her ghost whispering gift to uncover the secrets of the haunted house on the hill, and her sleuthing skills to catch a killer.

Sadly a series I am behind in! Falling very behind in all my paranormal mystery series! Sigh...definitely makes it challenging to WoW it and not read any of the description because of possible spoilers!

Mini Review--Heart of Tin by Danielle Paige

Everyone knows the Tin Woodman as Dorothy's lovable sidekick, the tin man who longed for a real heart to beat inside his tin chest. This digital original novella is the fourth installment in the prequel arc to the edgy and thrilling New York Times bestsellers Dorothy Must Die and The Wicked Will Rise, and tells what happened to the Tin Woodman after he got his wish.

In The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the Wizard gave the Tin Woodman a heart, and all lived happily ever after—or so the story goes. But in Heart of Tin, the heart wants what the heart wants—and the Tin Woodman's heart pines for Dorothy. The gift that the Wizard once bestowed on him turns twisted with longing. And when Dorothy returns to Oz with her own dark agenda, the Tin Woodman will do whatever it takes to help her rise to power—and to make her his.

Heart of Tin by Danielle Paige is a dark and compelling reimagining of a beloved classic and is perfect for fans of Cinder by Marissa Meyer, Beastly by Alex Flinn, and Wicked by Gregory Maguire.

I am truly enjoying what Danielle Paige is doing with this 6 or 7 (Goodreads shows 7, but then I hear 6 from others) part prequel series. We basically get to see what everyone was doing when Dorothy came back to Oz. It’s very interesting, and this time, in Heart of Tin, we get to see how the Tin Woodman came to be what he was in the series today.

I gotta admit, I felt kind of bad for this guy, in a sense. He is so in love with Dorothy and she’s too clueless and vapid to see it. She’s a very selfish girl and the Tin Woodman loves her so completely he’s willing to do anything and everything to see her smile. He longs for her love, the whole nine yards.

The story starts off with the Tin Woodman learning that Dorothy is back in Oz and he’s overjoyed! The love of his life—for he’s pretty much loved her ever since their first adventure—has returned to Oz. He feels that this time, he will admit his feelings to her and hope that she stays. Little does he know that she stays for other reasons entirely.

And so begins the Tin Woodman’s descent into complete and utter madness. We can see the changes in him long before he recognizes it. He becomes more violent and angry. It’s kinda scary when you think about it since this dude is known to wield an ax like nobody’s business. Though, the Scarecrow is far more terrifying, but his story’s not out yet. Soon though!

The Tin Woodman’s story is about his uprising madness and unrequited love. He was willing to do anything and everything for Dorothy, but sadly, she never bothered to give him the time of day. I never read the original stories myself, so I find it funny how the movie went with the Scarecrow to be the one Dorothy cared about most. Of course, this ignores her coming back and raising hell in Oz. I don’t think Judy Garland would’ve pulled that role off very well! LOL!

If you’re a fan of the Dorothy Must Die series so far, I highly recommend reading these prequel novellas! They are quick easy reads that are a lot of fun and give us some insight to the villains of the story, who were once heroes in another!

Review--The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige

In this dark, high-octane sequel to the New York Times bestselling Dorothy Must Die, Amy Gumm must do everything in her power to kill Dorothy and free Oz.

To make Oz a free land again, Amy Gumm was given a mission: remove the Tin Woodman’s heart, steal the Scarecrow’s brain, take the Lion’s courage, and then Dorothy must die...

But Dorothy still lives. Now the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked has vanished, and mysterious Princess Ozma might be Amy’s only ally. As Amy learns the truth about her mission, she realizes that she’s only just scratched the surface of Oz’s past—and that Kansas, the home she couldn't wait to leave behind, may also be in danger. In a place where the line between good and evil shifts with just a strong gust of wind, who can Amy trust—and who is really Wicked?

Danielle Paige picks up right where we left off in Dorothy Must Die with The Wicked Will Rise and despite being a fair deal shorter than its predecessor it still packs quite the punch in the storytelling department. After failing in her attempt to kill Dorothy, Amy and the Wicked must recoup. Only thing is that they are separated and Amy has no idea where they or even Nox are.

So begins the trying journey Amy must embark on with only Ozma as her companion. And she’s still just a little bit touched in the head, all things considered. Their first stop happens to be in the treetop village of the Wingless Ones. And that’s where Amy is able to get some guidance and a plan set into motion.

Amy’s goals are still the same. Obtain the Tin Woodman’s heart, the Lion’s courage, and the Scarecrow’s brain. Kill Dorothy. Defeat Glinda. Save Oz. But she knows that in order to get those goals accomplished, she’ll need help. She basically sets out to find that help and hopefully find the Wicked witches along the way.

This series has been a lot of fun so far! It’s definitely an interesting twist to the Oz stories. What I really like are all the surprises and twists that happen in this one. Just when you think you have an idea of what’s happening, Dorothy or Glinda throw a wrench into Amy’s plans and things change drastically. There are other villains too of course, but I won’t name names.

Amy does a lot of growing in this one too. I would’ve thought she’d be done with the growing, but it’s more like changes. You start to see a change in Amy and it’s unclear if she will be better off or not with said changes. I started to get a little scared for her in this one because the changes were getting so deep.

Sadly, it took some 100 odd pages before Nox made an appearance. But even when he was there, I felt like he almost wasn’t. He didn’t seem as big or posing as he did in the first book. He had that whole bad boy attitude and I feel like this Nox is almost an entirely different person than he once was. But it’s fitting I guess since Amy was changing too.

The ending was yet another jaw dropper. Just as I thought I had this series figured out, how each book might go, Danielle totally throws a whammy with this ending! She is definitely keeping readers on their toes with the guessing. Needless to say, I was left feeling a bit puzzled and wanting more. Thankfully, Yellow Brick War releases next year instead of its initial 2017 date! And there’s still a few more novellas to be had as well!

I would totally recommend this series to fans of the beloved classic, though you have to want to read a book that changes the way you see things, like Wicked, but more of a sequel that opens your eyes to what these characters have become! It’s a fun and thrilling read and I am waiting ever so not patiently for the next and final installment!

This week's topic is: Halloween themed freebie--Top Ten Scary Books!!

*in no particular order

BOOKS I'VE READ:

1. SLASHER GIRLS & MONSTER BOYS by Multiple Authors--this was a pretty creepy anthology! I really enjoyed it! It's actually in my Spooktacular Giveaway too!
2. TEN by Gretchen McNeil--I know not everyone liked this one, but I did. And it's creepy in that real life way. You know, you're stuck on an island and some psycho is killing everyone. Scary! LOL.
3. 3:59 by Gretchen McNeil--she's amazing at scary creepy books! This one involved doppelgangers and that's kinda terrifying itself! Especially when everyone you know thinks you're the monster and the monster is the real you!!

4. ANNA DRESSED IN BLOOD by Kendare Blake--totally creepy! The title alone gives you chills!! The perfect creepy ghost story!
5. SWERVE by Vicki Pettersson--another real life creepy story! A woman doing the bidding of the psychopath who's holding her fiance hostage!
6. THE DEAD HOUSE by Dawn Kurtagich--a totally bizarre (in a GOOD way!) and creepy read! Kind of involving multiple personalities and a totally separate lingering evil. This was a twisted read, yet spooky and delightful!

7. DOOMED by Tracy Deebs--one of my previous Spooktacular giveaways because this read scared me so bad! And it's not that it's a "scary" read. But it was scary because this dude pretty much brings about an end of the world scenario and he did it using our technology. So yeah. SCARY!!!

BOOKS I NEED TO READ:

8. DARK SHIMMER by Donna Jo Napoli--this one sounded creepy in that Gothic horror sense! Totally can't wait to read it!
9. BLOOD AND SALT by Kim Liggett--been hearing all sorts of good things on this one! Especially its creepy level!
10. DIARY OF A HAUNTING by M. Verano--read good things about this one too! Sounds like a creepy good read! The cover alone can give me nightmares! LOL!

PSA: YALLFest 2015!!!

So once again I am going to YALLFest!! Initially I was going with a blogger friend, but she had to cancel awhile ago do to other life changes! Totally understand, and I decided to still go ahead and go. My airfare and hotel is paid for, but I still wouldn't mind a travel buddy!

Is anyone else going and looking to roommate up? Or even just meet up at the festival and help each other with all the lines! OMG. Last year it was crazy moving from line to line. Luckily I got to see everyone I wanted to, but I worry about this year. The schedule of signings is not up yet, so naturally, I am a bundle of nerves over that.

But I'd love to meet up with people if anyone's going! My hotel is about a mile or so's walk to the festivities, which I walked last year. It's no biggie! But as I said, totally would LOVE to have a partner in crime for lines! We could totally help each other out depending on our author lists! LOL!

Anyone going and want to chat about this, leave me a comment or shoot me an email. My email is listed in my review policy. Or shoot me a DM on twitter @aGREATreader!
