Waiting on Wednesday

I hate waiting...
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog post by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights releases we're eagerly awaiting.

New York Times bestselling author Vicki Pettersson continues her breakout new supernatural noir mystery series as a fallen angel and a reporter team up to stop a drug cartel

New York Times bestselling author Vicki Pettersson follows up The Taken and The Lost, the first two books in a new supernatural noir mystery series as a fallen angel and a reporter team up.

After learning his wife survived the attack that killed him fifty years earlier, angel/PI Griffin Shaw is determined to find Evelyn Shaw, no matter the cost. Yet his obsession comes at a price. Grif has had to give up his burgeoning love for reporter Katherine "Kit" Craig, the woman who made life worth living again, and dedicate himself to finding one he no longer knows.

Yet when Grif is attacked again, it becomes clear that there are forces in both the mortal and heavenly realm who'd rather see him dead than unearth the well-buried secrets of his past. If he's to survive his second go-round on the Surface, Grif will have to convince Kit to reunite with him professionally, and help uncover decades of police corruption, risking both their lives … and testing the limits to what one angel is really willing to give for love.

Finally got around to starting this series and just in time for the epic finale! Cannot wait to see how things get settled with the mystery around Grif and of course the whole deal with Evelyn!

Barbara Vey Luncheon Event +Giveaways!

So this weekend I went up to Milwaukee to attend the Barbara Vey Reader Appreciation Luncheon! I have relatives who live just outside Milwaukee, so it was free room and board!

I had fun at the luncheon. It was very nice and there was quite an allay of authors in attendance! I got to see Darynda Jones, C.C. Hunter and Gena Showalter--just to name a few! I was even seated at Gena's table where I was finally able to ask the burning questions I had regarding her Intertwined series. And sadly, it seems there won't be a final book any time soon. Although Gena hopes to wrap it up at some point when she had time away from contracted projects. I am hopeful at least! Even offered to read a draft that may never be published! Gotta know what happens in that series!

So since I was away all weekend long, you know what that means! Yes! A giveaway!!!

I'm giving away some of the awesome books I got from my fave authors attending. These first few giveaways will have to be US only, I'm afraid. But look to the last giveaway for an international one!

First Prize pack will be a SIGNED copy of Shadow Falls: The Beginning by C.C. Hunter where you get the first two books in the Shadows Fall series! AND a SIGNED ARC of Reborn!!

An additional winner will get a SIGNED copy of Shadow Falls: The Beginning as well!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Then I have a Gena Showalter Prize Pack, where one winner will get SIGNED copies of Burning Dawn & Beauty Awakened!

And another winner will get a SIGNED copy of Alice in Zombieland! Gena's second YA series and yours truly is quote on the first page! This was my first quote appearance and I was very very happy!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

The final giveaway I have is a SINGED copy of Darynda Jones's First Grave on the Right!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

And my final giveaway is for INTERNATIONAL followers ONLY. Since these first few are all US ONLY, this is for you guys!

One international winner (as long as The Book Depository ships to you) will receive a set of Gena Showalter's first YA series, the Intertwined series. You will get copies of Intertwined, Unraveled, and Twisted!

I loved this series, so imagine my heartbreak to hear that sales were low. So I decided someone else must read this series with me, bask in its awesomeness and then yeah, share my misery as we wait for a possible-maybe-someday conclusion. So yes, I'm slightly evil in this endeavor!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

So there you go guys! Don't you love it when I go away somewhere?!

This week's topic is: Top Ten Books If You Like Supernatural
(yeah, not very original, but what can I say? I like the supernatural/paranormal with a good dose of action! And hot guys! ;) )

*in no particular order

1. The Hollows series by Kim Harrison--a perfect read for paranormal lovers! It has it all! And there's more than 1 hot guy in this series!
2. Women of the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong--another perfect series read for paranormal lovers!
3. Kitty Norvile series by Carrie Vaughn--the beginning of this series was awesome! Lately the stories aren't really exciting, they're still good though. But definitely recommend the early books!

4. H&W Investigations series by Jess Haines--another actiony series filled with multiple paranormals! Plus controversial issues regarding paranormals vs humans
5. Jaz parks series by Jennifer Rardin--an amazing series with paranormals and a crime investigating gig going on! (Still sadden about Jennifer's passing nearly 4 years ago)
6. Dark Days series by Jocelynn Drake--the ultimate actiony/paranormal read!

7. Jessica McClain series by Amanda Carlson--a great werewolf story with a kick-butt female heroine!
8. Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost--a perfect blend of paranormaly goodness and Bones definitely fits the bill on hot guys!
9. Riley Jenson series by Keri Arthur--another awesome series! Although it definitely has the action plot going on, it has stronger romantic plots then you'd see on Supernatural. But still hot guys! Lots of them!

10. Signs of the Zodiac series by Vicki Pettersson--plenty of action in this one! Super heroes vs super villains!

MOVIE Review--Captain America: The Winter Soldier

So I finally saw Captain America: The Winter Solider today. I had wanted to see Divergent with a friend but she couldn't make it and then my mom offered to go see this one with me. So we did!

It was really good! Although I regret not watching the first one prior to seeing this. There were a few things I was a bit lost on, but still had that sense of "knowing" things happened.

I guess one thing I was glad to see was that the Avengers movie wasn't playing a huge role in the aftermath. I liked it in Iron Man 3, but worried everyone would have to rehash what happened. We even got a little bit of that in Thor 2.

In this one there was a great conspiracy going on with S.H.I.E.L.D. and possible corruption on the inside when Nick Fury is attacked very early on. And yes, I will admit to "cheating" and checking my phone to see if he was going to be in The Avengers 2, which I had thought he was going to be in it anyway.

Lots of good action in this one! Naturally since it was an action movie. Kind of saw who the Winter Solider was going to be and the other bad guy wasn't nearly as surprising, but that didn't detract from the awesomeness of the movie!

I feel kind of bad for Steve Rogers as he still has no lady love in his life. Granted there was his love from his time before, but she is older now. There doesn't seem to be anyone in his life yet. Although, it seemed possible for one particular woman in his life to be a possible love interest, but it wasn't expanded upon.

The Black Widow is there again as well. I love Scarlett Johansson's portrayal of Natasha. She's a fun character, yet sometimes befuddles me. I thought she kind of had a thing going for Hawkeye in The Avengers. And then is seemed she might almost like Steve. So I'm not sure where she really stands or if she stands anywhere in this matter.

And finally one new character another new hero, the Falcon comes into play. He was pretty awesome. Just kickass awesome! I don't know my comic book history but I definitely love seeing these movies.

The ending to this one definitely leaves you wondering what will happen with the characters next. Such as the fate of the Winter Solider. I haven't heard if there's to be another Captain America movie, or if these plot threads will get picked up in The Avengers 2. Although the first clip at the end of the credits seemed to be setting something up for a future movie. That one may have been Avengers 2. Only time will tell I guess! Definitely love this movie franchise though!

Overall Rating 5/5 stars

Stacking the Shelves

This weekly meme is hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

Stacking The Shelves is all about the books we are adding to our shelves each week, sharing with you our excitement for our newest titles and maybe have you discover a new book in the process!

Had a pretty amazing week of book getting! Bought a few keeper copies and some other read that I had my eye on and ARCs! Gotta love those!

Here's what I bought:

The Forever Song by Julie Kagawa--my keeper copy finally arrived!
Gilded Ashes by Rosamund Hodge
Unearthly by Cynthia Hand--a very much belated keeper copy!
Hallowed by Cynthia Hand--see above
Boundless by Cynthia Hand--this one I actually need to read!
Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi--decided to give this one a try and it was on sale!
Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi--normally I don't buy the second book without reading the first one first, but this was also on sale, so I risked it!

Then for review from the publishers via Netgalley, I received:

Fireborn by Keri Arthur (ARC)
House of the Rising Sun by Kristen Painter (ARC)

THANK YOU Signet Select & Orbit!!
