Review--Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost

DATING THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS HAS IT CHALLENGES...

Leila's psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn't sure what the future holds. If that weren't enough, her lover Vlad has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she's also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever--especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won't admit that he loves her...

LIKE CHOOSING BETWEEN ETERNAL LOVE AND A LOVELESS ETERNITY...

Soon circumstances send Lelia back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust--the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity...

Jeaniene Frost's Twice Tempted is a close rival to its predecessor, Once Burned. We can say it was a hot read, but that would be stating the obvious! If the cover isn't enough to tell you that than I don't know what will. and I must admit that while the covers are smokin hot, I agree with the opinion that it doesn't really depict the real Vlad. Vlad hardly ever just walks around shirtless, but it is very appeasing on the eyes! Haha!

Moving on...we pick up pretty much where we left off. Some time after the whole debacle with Szilagyi going up in flames of the burning building, life has returned to normal at Casa Vlad. But Leila is still unhappy that Vlad won't admit his feelings to her. She loves him, openly and deeply, and yet she still feels like Vlad sees her as a friend with benefits or something like that. And even when she thinks he's about to open up to her and make a grand movement, she's still left disappointed and wanting more from him.

Leila is a very determined woman and I admire her strength. When Vlad refuses to say "I love you", she leaves. She cannot stand to be in the house with the man she loves who refuses to return her affections. This would be hard to do an any situation, real life or fiction and I was proud of Leila for her strength.

She decides to return to her life as a carnival worker, but her old position with Marty is gone, but he says he'll help her get back into the circuit. That's when the first tragedy strikes and Marty's trailer is blown up! The entire carnival crowd is either dead or injured, mostly dead with Leila being one of the few survivors. Maximus is the one to find her and soon becomes her ally and companion. Maximus has made his feelings for Leila very clear since the first book, and those feelings haven't changed. Leila is torn between wanting to return his affections yet still can't get over Vlad so quickly.

Maximus was pretty gentlemanly about the whole thing and agreed to have her in any way she would give. And despite a hot moment or two, not much happens between them...before Leila gets kidnapped again. Once again someone is after her and wants her, possibly for her abilities.

Leila and Vlad are separated for a decent portion of the book, yet Leila still communicates with him in what she believes are her dreams. And it's in these dreams that we get to see hints of something more from Vlad. Leila isn't sure what to make of most of it, since she writes it off as a dream, but it's there nonetheless.

Leila is soon back in Vlad's humble abode for her protection. Deja vu anyone? Yet this time Vlad has no intentions of letting her leave and that's when things start to get really interesting! It's hard to explain everything in minimal details without hinting at spoilers, but we get to see Vlad slowly show Leila what she has been looking for.

Just when the moments are getting happy though, Vlad and Leila discover that he has a traitor in his midst. That's when things start happening very quickly and intensely!

Twice Tempted was an over the top enjoyable read! I loved every minute of it! There was an appearance of Cat sans Bones that was enjoyable! I like seeing the characters from the main series interact with what were once side characters in their new series. (Did that make sense?)

The pacing to this one was deliciously good! Even the times Leila was separated from Vlad were good because she was on a mission to solve a murder mystery of a kind that directly puts her in danger! There's never a dull moment in any of the books Jeaniene writes! And it's already been mentioned in the book world, but I'll repeat it; Vlad and Leila's books will be a trilogy! So we still have one more book to go with the Prince of Darkness! Vlad is truly remarkable in this series! I love him and his fierce side tempered with his need to protect Leila! This series, this Night Huntress World, truly has it everything one looks for in a paranormal read; lots of death-defying action, vampires and other supernaturals, hot romance and characters that you are just bound to love!
